“For centuries, mortalkind cared not for faith or worship, too consumed by petty infighting, territorial disputes or glory and conquest to truly develop into anything great. That all changed when a great rift opened in the skies above. Every last mortal on that world observed the coming of the angels, fearful apocalypse had arrived to punish them for their sins. Great angelic hosts appeared and descended into the mountains. For weeks, they remained quiet, while a scant few flew overhead, watching, observing the armies of man, orc, elf, and other. Then, one fateful day, an army of gold and silver skinned angels emerged from hiding, and descended upon the armies of a cruel tyrant assaulting the people of a small town.
Heavenly light masked what turned out to be a brutal slaughter. Men fled the battlefield missing limbs, eyes, or screaming in terror at what that heavenly host had wrought. The battle lasted mere minutes. When the dust settled, these angels marched towards the town. Panic set in, until another set of angels, blue, pink and yellow skinned, descended upon the remains of the fallen. Soldiers were healed, bodies were given last rites, and a calm settled over all who observed them.
Eventually, both hosts of angels came to announce their presence to the town, in hopes that word of their arrival would carry throughout the land. A stag-horned, gold skinned angel stepped forward, her armor golden and bloody, spiked, and baring a crest depicting a golden sun with a blade thrust downwards through it. At her side marched a blue skinned angel, smaller, softer horns atop his head, wearing robes of the softest silks, clean and immaculate, and displaying the crest of a blue star encompassed between two palms.
“We are the Avalrys, and the stars have come to bring the gift of law, order and mercy to this land.” the male angel spoke, his voice warm and melodic. However, when the female angel spoke soon after, her voice was sharp, metallic, and unforgiving.
“And if the kingdoms of this land do not comply, the sun shall enforce judgment upon them, and forge order anew from their ashes.
We are the Avalrys. We shall be this world’s salvation, whether it wishes to be saved, or not.”
